I belong to many communities and have many identities. Most strongly I identify as Queer, a Person of Color and Intersex. I strive to use these experiences and identities to help me connect to clients. I volunteer and work with intersex, gender-expansive, and trans youth and adults. I see the care I offer as an act of resilience and defiance.
Hello, my name is Tyra Hughes and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I live and work in the Bay Area of California. A large part of my professional experience has been working with individuals and families who are struggling with relationship issues, parenting challenges, trauma, the justice system and intimate partner violence.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and depression. My goal is to help you find relief and build the skills you need to thrive. I believe therapy should feel supportive and tailored to your unique needs.
I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. I received my Masters in Counseling, Marriage Family and Child Therapy from the University of Phoenix and have been practicing for 4 years. My experience is in helping children, teens and adults navigate and understand their feelings and emotions to lead to a happier fulfilled life. In addition, I approach therapy from a trauma informed lens working to help clients increase happiness, confidence, and overall self esteem.
I am direct, forward looking, empathetic and a good listener.
I work to empower and strengthen my clients through increasing their Self-Agency and Self-Trust.
What draws me to this field is getting to work so closely with people to assist them in becoming the best versions of themselves. I obtained by BA in Psychology from San Diego State and my MA in MFT from Hope International. I had years of experience in community mental health, schools, and private practice. I have also worked with an array of demographics and cultures. Being a witness to my clients growing and thriving is the motivation that keeps me on this path today.
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor (CATC-IV) with over 16 years of experience in behavioral health and substance use treatment. I was certified in 2012 for addiction treatment and licensed in 2022 for mental health. I work with adults navigating substance use and recovery, co-occurring anxiety and depression, and life transitions that impact emotional well-being.
I have particular experience supporting men and members of the LGBTQIA+ community in building sustainable recovery, strengthening emotional resilience, and improving relationship health. My work is grounded in a deep respect for the recovery process and the courage it takes to pursue change. I understand that growth is rarely linear, and I approach each client with patience, steadiness, and practical support.
I provide structured, virtual outpatient therapy for adults managing mild to moderate symptoms who are seeking stability, accountability, and meaningful forward movement. At the heart of my work is a commitment to clarity and care to help clients better understand themselves while feeling respected, supported, and empowered throughout the process.
